The future we saw yesterday...
Lets go back in time, 10 years back...When the grass was greener, the air was cleaner and modernization just started to crawl. The people of the Maldivian society and a vision, a dream, to see a modernized Maldives; work made easier and lives getting better. It was a great vision viewed through imagination, technology bringing in the high tech gadgets to improve our lives for the betterment of our society. Servant robots doing and helping us to carryout our biddings, though i may have been only seven years old, I can remember yesterday, like I see tomorrow. But now that it has happened, some people are starting to regret it. Specially some parents, as they're constantly loosing their children to westernization. Surprisingly enough, though unanticipated and yet, not unexpected , with the changing time, people have changed.
Maldives is no longer a society. Instead, I see it as a group of communities refusing to become one, like poles of the same magnetic material. Disastrous and ruthless, Maldives has lost its brotherhood. Shedding brotherly blood is becoming a daily routine that it happens everyday of the year. The truth can be trusted no more as it can be created and bought. Freedom is over rated and love, redefined but still we call ourselves muslims. Women get no respect, children have no rights and innocent people are proven guilty by force. What a way of living...
The rules of the jungle have already sunk in. Its everyman for himself now. Its everyman for himself now; survival of the fittest. Children start smoking at the age of four. Organized crime is a new profession and an optional career for a lot of hopeless cases. Drugs have spread all over like wild fire. Yet, its never good to judge a book by its cover and a shame that some of us took everything that glittered as gold. I think I'm not wrong in saying old is and was gold. I was just wondering whether this was the future we saw yesterday...
